In the fresco of the donation of Rome we see
the apse of the ancient basilica of San Pietro,
the so-called Constantinian basilica,
preceded by the ciborium with twisted columns,
a shape later taken up by Bernini in his canopy.

The hall of Constantine was completed in 1524
when Clement VII de' Medici reigned.
