The intervention of Leo III is recalled,
who according to a tradition not very faithful to the truth,
defeated the Saracens in Ostia.

In this fresco it is thought that the intervention of the
Bottega (Raffaello's worksop) was greater than in the previous ones,
e ven if the drawings are always by Raphael.

In particular, the figures in the foreground
are attributed to Giulio Romano
and the architecture and ships
to Giovanni da Udine,
while the portraits of the Pope and the two cardinals
are due to Raphael.

The one in the foreground is Giulio de’ Medici,
Leo X's cousin, the future Clement VII,
the other is the very powerful and wisest Cardinal Bibbiena.
