Raphael had learned the techniques
of drawing and painting from his father Giovanni Santi,
who had an established workshop in Urbino.

In the years 1494 - 1498, he went to Perugia where,
in the Perugino workshop, he began
a period of fundamental apprenticeship
for his artistic training.
