MYTH OF ARION

The myth says that Arion, divine lyre musician, going from city to city, due to his art enriched, came to Sicily and from there went to Taranto, but on the return journey to his native Corinth sailors thought to kill him to steal the riches he had with him.

Arion asked to sing before he died and with the accompaniment of his lyre raised a hymn to Apollo, attracted by his voice many dolphins surrounded the ship, so when Arion, finished singing, threw himself into the sea they took him to safety.

Came to Corinth on the back of a dolphin, Arion set apart Periander, tyrant of the city, about his  misfortunes.

Periander captured the  and sailors crucified them.
