ALCYONE

Alcyone, daughter of Aeolus, king of the winds, married Ceyx of whom she was so in love to  call him Zeus, but Zeus, the real one, didn’t agree and while the poor Ceyx travelled to the sea broke against him a terrible storm.

When the shadow of Ceyx appeared to Alcyone, she realized that he was dead and out of desperation she threw herself into the sea.

Then the gods took pity and transformed Alcyone and Ceyx into Alcioni (=halcyon), mythological bird, which since then represented the connection between the sky and the sea.
