FAÇADE
The top of the façade retains a mosaic of the thirteenth century, attributed to Pietro Cavallini, which depicts Mary with the Child, while to the sides ten women are carrying lamps.
The portico was made by Carlo Fontana (1638-1714), pupil of Pietro da Cortona and Gian Lorenzo Bernini's collaborator, who built it in 1702. On the railing of the portico the statues of the Popes: Calixtus, Cornelius, Julius and Calepodius.
Inside the portico are exposed inscriptions, frescoes and tombstones.
On top of the bell tower, in a niche, a mosaic depicts Madonna and Child.
