THE CHAPEL OF THE CHOIR AT SANTA MARIA SOPRA MINERVA

The Medici Chapel or Chapel of the Choir was rebuilt as we see it today thanks to the Duke Alessandro de' Medici, to make it the tomb of Pope Leo X (1475 - 1521), Giovanni de' Medici and Clement VII (1478 - 1534) Giulio de' Medici.

The architecture of the complex is by Antonio da Sangallo the Younger (1483 - 1546), the statue of Pope Leo X by Raphael da Montelupo (1505 - 1566), that of Clement VII by Nanni di Baccio Bigio (? - C. 1568), while the prophets in the niches are by Baccio Bandinelli (1488-1560).

With our Romainteractive friends we made the acquaintance of Raffaello da Montelupo when we visited the Church of Our Lady of Consolation.
