THE ARCHITECTS OF THE ROMAN RENAISSANCE: GIACOMO DELLA PORTA

The indefatigable Giacomo della Porta (1632 – 1602), had the fate to complete the buildings that Michelangelo left in half. For this reason are not fully recognized all the credit he has.

In the architectural development of Rome, Giacomo played a key role, because while he ended the epic deed of the Renaissance, on the other hand he opened the way to the Baroque era. We present therefore his works distinct among the "Renaissance" and the "pre Baroque".

To the first belongs certainly the dome of St. Peter in the Vatican, the Senatorial Palace, the Palace of the Conservatori, the Palace of Sapienza (=wisdom), Capizucchi Palace and Fani Palace, today Pecci-Blunt.

At the second set of architectures should be included: the Church of Jesus, San Luigi dei Francesi, Santa Maria Madonna dei Monti, St. Nicholas in Carcere (=prison), Sant’Atanasio dei Greci and Trinità dei Monti.
