AGOSTINO CHIGI AND HIS PROTECTED

When the great patron Agostino Chigi wanted a villa worthy of him, called to Rome from Siena his compatriot Baldassarre Peruzzi, who since 1508 already set to work and completed the construction in 1512.

And since such a beautiful villa had to be painted properly, Agostino chose the best of the best: Raphael, Sodoma, Sebastiano del Piombo and the same Peruzzi.

Presenting the major painters of the Roman Renaissance, we have devoted our attention to those artists who spent most of their life in Rome.
However, other great artists during short stays, left their mark in Rome. Among these we chose: Piero della Francesca, Filippo Lippi, Giorgio Vasari and Palma the Young.
