MYSTERY BIT - THE DAY AFTER

Last!

On 16 October 2009, the National Archaeological Museum dedicated to Marcello Gigante was inaugurated.

Do you know what it means to inaugurate a museum?
Blood sweat and tears.
Well! own blood, no,
not even tears,
but for Jupiter Optimus Maximus, sweat, yes, yes and yes again.

Let's take another look at the Museum and then move to the square below the Banquet Hall of the Museum, where so many dear friends are waiting for us.

The first we encounter are Beppe Candela and Gelsomino Azzeo, just after we find the friends of the Ricigliano wine cooperative, and those of the black truffle of Colliano.
Then we do abundant (and convenient), supplies,  and thus absolved any duty toward  wife, children, relatives and friends, we are finally free to do the tourists.

Following the advice of the friends (too), of the Comunità Montana of Tanagro, we aim to Romagnano Antica (less than 10 km from Buccino), and enjoy the panorama of the old abandoned village.

Then we get down to Romagnano Scalo and discover the spectacular Canyon of Melandro.
At this point we look for another canyon, the Platano Canyon.
The best thing is to focus on Ricigliano (they are always a few kilometers) and from above, we follow the Platano Canyon, at the bottom of which there is a Roman bridge, known as the Hannibal Bridge.
The bridge allowed  a very old road to cross Platano river.
An old road that dates back to prehistoric times.

But why they call it Hannibal Bridge?
Because the name of Hannibal was associated to awful stories and seeing down the bridge and the road you can understand just how risky was the route and one can easily imagine how many travelers were attacked.

Let the dreadful memories of the Hannibal bridge, when we come back to Buccino we  enjoy the sights of these lands, rare expressions of genuine pastoral and folk wisdom.
But we are now, or next, or in the heart of the vintage, then we must go to St. Gregorio Magno (=the Great),  to visit the cellars of Via Bacchus.
It's getting late, the sun, with tongues of fire, set behind the Alburni.
After a so busy day we have deserve a super dinner.

Where is dinner?
At Caggiano course, but first a break in the wine shop Severino and then we go to the restaurant.

After such an excellent dinner, I do not say I feel drunk, but I feel it is appropriate to spend the night at the inn and enjoy the hospitality of Milena and Franco Pucciarelli.

Were like this every day!

Finally thanks to the friends of the Comunità Montana del Tanagro (www.cmtanagro.it), for photos, for advices and assistance.
Special thanks to Giovanni Caggiano, President of the community  and Mayor of Caggiano, Giovanni Lordi,  Vitantonio Iacullo and Marcantonio Navatta who led us in the ravines of Melandro river to discover the amazing pyramids.
