PALAZZO MASSIMO LANCELLOTTI

The palace was built in 1542 by the architect Pirro Lagorio commissioned by the archbishop of Salerno (near Neaples) Ludovico Torres; for this the reason the Palace is also named Torres. Anyway since 1600 it is a property of Massimo Lancellotti family and still the palace is the Roman residence of the prince Paolo Enrico Massimo Lancellotti and his wife Oretta Sacchetti di Castel Romano, descendant of the marquis Marcello Sacchetti, who inspired Pietro da Cortona one of his best paintings. 

The palace’s attic is asymetrical, as if it wasn’t finished; but it was finished and then partly demolished because its weight could collapse the building.
At the ground floor, from a side entrance you can get in the “four columns restaurant”, these big and suggestive columns were a part of Domitian stadium (those who aren’t suggestible be aware that the cuisine is good). Anyway the unexpected columns suggest what a lot of ruins are hidden inside the buildings erected on the Domitian stadium.
