Rucellai Chapel


As we said Carlo Maderno, when he built St. Andrea della Valle, brought his young nephew Borromini in Rome, and employed him as a stonemason, but had to work in S. Andrea della Valle also the architect Matteo Castelli (1560-1632). He, too coming from Ticino, the region of Maderno, and relative of Borromini.

Matteo Castelli designed both Rucellai and Barberini chapel.

The altarpiece is by Francesco Manno.

The archangel Raphael is of unknown attribution.

The spandrels of the dome are by Bonvicino.

St. Gabriel and the Eternal Father is by Pomarancio (Cristoforo Roncalli 1552-1626) and the frescoes in the dome too.
