fontana di nettuno
The Nettuno fountain has a basin that, after the experts, is named “polilobata”, which means: with a lot of angles. This basin was designed by Giacomo della Porta.
For a long time the fountain looked very poor, compare to the other fountains in the square, until in 1878 a competition was called to give the fountain its sculptures.
The competition’s winner was, no! were two: Gregorio Zappalà who sculptured Nereids, putti and horses, and Antonio Della Bitta who made the Neptune.
