fontana del moro
The mountain depicts an Ethiopian (the Moro=black), fighting versus a dolphin.
The work has a long history: the basin was designed by Giacomo della Porta (1576), tritons and masks overlook the basin, the masks were sculptured by Giacomo della Porta for another fountain (placed in Popolo Square); while the tritons are copies of originals placed in the fountains of Villa Borghese.
The present look is the result of the original design, the Bernini design, the Valadier arrangement, who, when designed Popolo Square, moved to Moro fountain the masks sculptured by Giacomo della Porta.
The following photos show the fountain.
