braschi
Braschi Palace was raised where once there was the Renaissance Orsini Palace, when in 1790 Pope Braschi family purchased the old Palace, this one was destroyed and a new palace was built by the architect Cosimo Morelli. Nevertheless the building of this new Palace had a lot of problems: in 1798 the works were interrupted because of the French invasion. The building began again in 1802 and in 1804 the magnificent staircase and the Valadier Chapel were completed, but in 1816 the duke Braschi died and the family fell without money, therefore the Palace wasn’t completed.
In 1871 Braschi heirs sold the Palace to the Italian State and at last the Palace was finished.
Since 1952 Braschi Palace is the seat of the Rome Museum.
