canton ticino

The architects, engineers and specialised workers (carpenters, plasterers, stone-carvers) who changed the appearance of Rome were mostly from Ticino.

The first one was Domenico Fontana who as contractor, with his brother Giovanni, hired workers who were from his home district and whom he fully trusted.

Then came his nephew Carlo Maderno, who took advantage of the genius of Borromini, a distant relative from Ticino.

Another figure was Giacomo Della Porta, born in Genoa but whose origins lay in Ticino.

This was the great artistic workshop created in Rome, and today people from the Ticino district still love Rome, considering that they funded the recent and excellent restoration of San Carlo alle Quattro Fontane.

We will say more about San Carlo later, letting the pictures speak for us.
