Trajan relief

The relief represents a war scenery whose central feature is the Roman horse attack.

This work is so remarkable becouse of its immediate, intense, cruel expressivity.

Probably the relief stayed on the top of the Basilica Ulpia (Ulpius Trajanus), sure it came from the Trajan forum, therefore the relief had a political significance.

GREAT PORTAL

SIDE

In order to insert the relief inside the arch it was divided in four parts. The sequence of the battle from right to left is this: 3 western top, great portal side West, 3 eastern top, great portal side East.
