The center of Martina Franca is XX September Square: here is the municipal
park.
In the opposite side of the park, the S. Antonio arch stands out (1763); it
is dominated by the S. Martino's statue. By tradition S.
Martino appared here to free the town from Maramaldo's troops.
You should go beyond the S. Antonio arch if you want to see the beautiful old village, that has
an elliptical map.
Going beyond the S. Antonio arch there is Rome Square with one fontain in
the center, the Ducal Palace on the right and the Martucci's Palace on
the left. The Martucci's Palace has been built in baroque style.
You' re now going through Vittorio Emanuele main street and you can see the collegiate church
of S. Martino. It was built between 1747-1763 by the archpriest Isidoro Chirulli and in 1775 the
church was consacrated.
In 1998 it became a " Basilica " for Giovanni Paolo II Pope's will.
Walkin' on the streets of Martina Franca you will also see many palaces of baroque look
: Fanelli Palace, Magli Palace, Blasi Palace, Motolese Palace, Maggi Palace.
At the end of Immaculate Mary Square there is the Umbert King street that leads to the S. Domenico's Church.
If you move forward you will see the Carmine's Church, in baroque style also.
